Some water heater manufacturers who bought their water heater dip tubes from
Perfection Mfg. Co. between 1993 and 1997 sold water heaters with potentially
faulty dip tubes. The problem stems from the deterioration of the plastic
dip tube inside the tank, and the subsequent problems from the plastic pieces
washing through the water system and eventually causing reduced water pressure.
The resulting class action law suit provided for 100% replacement costs for
replacing the defective tube, however the claim period terminated 12/31/2000.
It is important however to recognize if your water heater falls into the
range of those having a potentially defective dip tube. Below is a list of
water heater manufacturers and the serial # range for those with the defective
part. If yours falls in this range it would be advisable to have a
licensed plumber replace your water heater's dip tube.
